Hello guys, today we are discussing the basic concept of the single phase preventer, the Use of single-phase preventers, the principle of single-phase preventers, and the Advantages and disadvantages of single-phase preventers.
The single-phase preventer is a safety device for a motor. basically have sensing relays like current sensing relays and voltage sensing relays to protect the 3-phase motor from electrical threats.
Single Phase preventer:-
It is used as a safety device for an electrical motor. it provides safety from the high value of current in a case of phase failure from a 3-phase input supply in an electrical motor. In a condition of the phase failure from 3 phase power supply high value of current supply through in the motor winding. The high value of current can damage the motor windings.
]In a condition of phase failure motor speed decrease and makes a noisy sound and heats up motor windings. During the motor heat up the current sensing relay in single phase preventer sense and give a signal to the PLC and trip the circuit.
List of the parts of single-phase preventers:-
Basically, the single-phase preventer provided various Parts of the safety feature as given below:-
- Current sensing relays.
- Overvoltage sensing relays.
- Under voltage sensing relays.
- Over frequency relays.
- Under frequency relays.
- Asymmetric.
- phase failure.
Types of single-phase preventers:-
- Current sensing types.
- Voltage sensing types.
Current Sensing types:-
The current sensing type of single-phase converters continuously senses the current flowing inside the motor windings. If any unbalanced current condition is found in the motor windings the trip circuit activates inside the preventer. They automatically change the contacts of the preventers NO (Normally open) to NC (Normally closed) and also give the digital signal.
Voltage Sensing Relay:-
The single-phase preventer continuously senses the voltage in between the terminal of the windings. if a non-uniform voltage is found in between the terminal of the electric motor windings. when found the abnormal unbalance condition of voltage changes the condition of the contactor terminal NC to NO. turn off the power supply of the motor.
Advantages of the single-phase preventers:-
- Single Devices protect from many electrical threats.
- Compact in shape and size benefits in less space required.
- This is highly reliable and easy to use.

Disadvantages of the single-phase preventers:-
- This is used only in electrical threats from the phase failure condition.
- Basically used in low-power electrical motors.
- Complex installation including false tripping is a serious problem in the preventer.
- Provide the single types of electrical fault after a long period of maintenance required.
